Training Program
I , John Gould, certified Minnesota biathlon coach, will provide you with comprehensive training toward biathlon competition. People of any age, who are no longer students and want to pursue biathlon at a master level, are also welcome.
Training includes the following four aspects: Skiing or Roller Skiing; Target Shooting; Strength Training; German. The week will consist of 5 training sessions, each 2 hours in length. Monday: Video analysis of yourselves or world class skiiers. Wednesday and Friday: Classic or Skate skiing and Strength training. Saturday and Sunday: Dual skills training.
Sessions will often involve combination training with running. These sessions will be carried out in a manner which always provides a safe environment to the athlete and in accordance with the training plan, which the athlete will receive from me, respectively Minnesota Biathlon.
Times will change when the biathletes are out of school. The schedule will then be decided by mutual consent of the participants.
My responsibilities to the biathlete also include providing support and coaching at all sanctioned races and managing the races held at Snowflake Nordic. They also include keeping the range area and appropriate ski trails at Snowflake mowed in the summer and groomed in the winter. I also volunteer to groom and mow trails not associated with biathlon as biathlon’s contribution to the well being of Snowflake Nordic.
The biathlete’s responsibility is to come as often as possible to training sessions but to attend at least 2 sessions per week. Biathletes and their parents are also expected to volunteer their time from a host of duties: grooming trails; assissting on the range; providing refreshments at ski meets; contacting participants; and others from which to choose.
All biathletes participating in the program are eligible to participate in the German exchange program.
